About Encryption 1™

What kinds of files can I encrypt?

It can encrypt files such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, images, ZIP files, text files, and other file types. The tool does not need to understand the contents of the file; it encrypts the file's bytes.

Is there a size limit?

Yes. Encryption 1™ currently supports files up to 10 MB per file. This limit is intentional so the browser-based tool remains lightweight and practical.

Can I encrypt images?

Yes. JPG, PNG, GIF, and other image files can be encrypted like other files, provided the file is within the 10 MB limit.

Can I encrypt Word and Excel files?

Yes. The application encrypts the file itself, not the document contents as editable text. When decrypted, the original file can be downloaded with its original filename and file type.

Can I encrypt PDFs and ZIP files?

Yes, provided the file is no larger than 10 MB.

Privacy, storage, and the Internet

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Encryption and decryption are performed locally in your browser. The application is designed so the server does not process, store, or inspect the contents of the files you encrypt.

Does Encryption 1™ require an account?

No. There is no account, signup, or login requirement.

Does it require an Internet connection?

The application is designed to be offline-friendly. The underlying encryption work is performed in the browser rather than by a remote encryption service. A standalone/local copy can be used without an Internet connection when the browser provides the required Web Crypto API.

Does Encryption 1™ install anything?

No software installation is required. It is a browser-based application.

Can I move an encrypted file by email, USB drive, or cloud storage?

Yes. The encrypted .pvault package is a file and can be moved like other files. Remember that the password should be protected separately.

Passwords and decryption

What happens if I forget my password?

The encrypted content cannot be recovered through Encryption 1™. The application does not keep a copy of your password. This is an important part of the privacy model.

Can I change the password on an encrypted file?

Not directly. Decrypt the file with the existing password, then encrypt the original file again using the new password.

Can I send an encrypted file to another person?

Yes. The recipient needs the encrypted file and the correct password. For better security, send the password through a different channel than the encrypted file.

Can Encryption 1™ break or recover a password?

No. It is not a password-recovery service. If the correct password is lost, the encrypted content cannot be recovered by the application.

What it can and cannot protect

Does encryption protect the file itself?

Encryption 1™ is designed to protect the contents of the encrypted package using AES-GCM with a password-derived key. It is not a guarantee against every possible threat.

Does it protect me from phishing?

No. Encryption protects data; it does not protect a person from being tricked into revealing a password, opening a malicious attachment, or sending information to a scammer.

Does it protect me if my computer has malware or a keylogger?

No. If an attacker can observe what you type or access files on your device, local encryption cannot solve that problem. Use an updated, trusted device whenever possible.

Does it protect against accidental deletion or a lost USB drive?

No. Encryption protects privacy, not availability. Keep secure backups of important encrypted files.

Is it "unbreakable"?

No security tool should make that claim. Encryption 1™ uses modern, strong browser-based encryption, but overall security also depends on the password, the device, the surrounding environment, and how the user handles the encrypted files.
